When a child is diagnosed with diabetes, the parents are often overwhelmed. There's so much to learn so quickly. Shots, blood tests, foods, exercise -- everything, it seems, changes. For those of you who can't quite remember everything you were told, or want to learn more, here's some collected wisdom from various sources.
- The Diabetes Standards of Care by the American Diabetes Association is an excellent review of the kind of medical care your child should receive.
- The AACE Guidelines for the Management of Diabetes Mellitus presents the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology's approach to managing diabetes. Here's what your endocrinologist might be using.
- Advice for Parents of Children with Diabetes, from the Healing Handbook for Persons with Diabetes, contains excellent advice for us all.
